Set the books' accounting basis
PUT /settings/accounting-basis
Before the books open, basis alone sets the one they open on. Once they are open, a change is a day in the sand: from must be the first day of a coming financial year (the tax settings' financialYearStart), after today in the books' zone (its timeZone), and from midnight there on that day every posting is made on basis — a move to accrual recognising, on its day, whatever was still awaiting payment. A change still to come is replaced, and asking for the basis already in force from that day takes it back. Once the books are open the schedule changes at most once a week (too-soon, with changeableFrom). 409 BasisChangeRefused names the problem (day-required, day-not-allowed, not-a-year-start, not-after-today, too-soon) and the changeDays allowed. Appends inventory.accounting-basis-set. Idempotent by content: a body that leaves the schedule as it is appends nothing.
Access
Requires settings:write.
How scopes come from roles: Scopes and roles. Getting a token: Authentication and app tokens.
Retries
Idempotent by content: a body that leaves the schedule as it is appends nothing.
Why every write carries a key: Idempotency and retries.
Facts appended
inventory.accounting-basis-set
What a fact is: Facts and the journal.
AI agent tool
No agent tool. Moving the books between cash and accrual changes how every later figure is reported: the owner's call in Settings › Tax, from the start of a financial year.
Connecting an agent: AI agents.
Example
Move the books to the cash basis from the next financial year.
