Auth API · members

Replace one member's assigned roles with roles — the whole set, not a change to it

PUT /api/auth/roles/{organizationId}/{userId}

The member's next token carries them (an open admin re-mints the moment the fact is published). Governance is membership, never assigned: an owner or admin holds every scope whatever is stored here. 400 InvalidRoles for a name that is not an assignable role or one named twice, 404 NotAMember for a person outside the organization, 403 AdminRequired for anyone but an owner or admin, 403 GrantExceedsYours (naming the excess scopes and views) for roles reaching beyond what the assigner holds themselves — no one grants more than they hold. Appends auth.member-roles-changed. Idempotent by content: assigning the set the member already holds, in any order, is acknowledged and appends nothing.

Access

Requires a signed-in session: An active owner or admin of the organization, checked against its membership by the route (the person's BetterAuth session)

How scopes come from roles: Scopes and roles. Getting a token: Authentication and app tokens.

Retries

Idempotent by content: assigning the set the member already holds, in any order, is acknowledged and appends nothing.

Why every write carries a key: Idempotency and retries.

Facts appended

  • auth.member-roles-changed

What a fact is: Facts and the journal.

AI agent tool

No agent tool. Assigning roles decides what every member may do: an owner's or admin's decision in Settings › Users, never an agent's — an agent must not widen its own person's reach.

Connecting an agent: AI agents.

The panel writes this call in other languages. It does not send it: Manifold's APIs do not take calls from a web page on another site, so run the call from your own code or terminal. The whole API as OpenAPI: auth-service.openapi.json. Base URL https://auth.getmanifold.io.
