Auth API · members

End a member's access to the organization without deleting them

POST /api/auth/members/{organizationId}/{userId}/deactivate

End a member's access to the organization without deleting them — people are never deleted, because the journal names every actor.

From their next token they hold nothing here, the organization drops off their list and entering it is refused; their roles are kept for a reactivation. An optional reason (at most 500 characters: 400 InvalidReason beyond) is recorded with it. 403 AdminRequired for anyone but an owner or admin, MembershipDeactivated for a caller whose own access has ended, OwnerRequired for an admin deactivating an owner; 404 NotAMember; 409 CannotDeactivateSelf, and 409 LastVerifiedOwner for the organization's last active owner with a verified email — every organization keeps one, so elect another verified owner first. Appends auth.member-deactivated. Idempotent by state: deactivating a member who is already deactivated is acknowledged and appends nothing.

Access

Requires a signed-in session: An active owner or admin of the organization, checked against its membership by the route (the person's BetterAuth session)

How scopes come from roles: Scopes and roles. Getting a token: Authentication and app tokens.

Retries

Idempotent by state: deactivating a member who is already deactivated is acknowledged and appends nothing.

Why every write carries a key: Idempotency and retries.

Facts appended

  • auth.member-deactivated

What a fact is: Facts and the journal.

AI agent tool

No agent tool. Ending a member's access is an owner's or admin's decision in Settings › Users, never an agent's; it answers a person's BetterAuth session only.

Connecting an agent: AI agents.

The panel writes this call in other languages. It does not send it: Manifold's APIs do not take calls from a web page on another site, so run the call from your own code or terminal. The whole API as OpenAPI: auth-service.openapi.json. Base URL https://auth.getmanifold.io.
